There are plenty of food and drink options to explore at Birmingham’s Daxton Hotel, from classic cocktails at the Geode Bar and Lounge to quick bites and coffees at Café Dax, as well as fine dining at the elegant Madam restaurant. Elevating that experience, The Daxton Hotel boasts a collection of 400 original pieces of art that have been curated from around the world by renowned Saatchi Art. Recently, the hotel unveiled its newest edition to its extensive art collection. Located in the VIA Walkway (between The Daxton and Zana), this 100-foot-long installation by Detroit artist James Kaye features mixed materials to create one incredible cohesive piece. The piece brings the curated art collection outside of the hotel to the street, furthering the Daxton’s vision of community connections in Birmingham. Kaye was on site for the installation’s dedication as well as Daxton Hotel owner Mark Mitchell. “It’s the kind of thing artists dream of,” said Kaye. “I was able to express myself…and respond with the materials…it’s a good fit because I grew up around here - I’m from Detroit and I’ve got a street art background and a hot rodding background and (the installation) is a connection between all the styles.” Mitchell said that although the collection represents 150 artists from 50 over countries, the Daxton also has a commitment to support local aspiring artists, such as Kaye. 298 S.
